Aryna Sabalenka in Minsk: folk dances, a fiancé, and 8 bodyguards

Belarusian top-ranked tennis player Aryna Sabalenka made her first public appearance in Minsk in a long time. On July 14, she took part in the opening of tennis courts, gave a masterclass for young athletes, and spoke with journalists.

As it turned out, Sabalenka flew to Belarus on a private business jet. She brought along her dog and her fiancé — Brazilian businessman Georgios Frangoulis.

At Minsk airport, the celebrated tennis star was welcomed with a traditional bread-and-salt ceremony, a red carpet (or rather, a rug), and folk dances. Sabalenka appeared to enjoy the reception, judging by the videos.

Aryna Sabalenka arrived at the tennis court opening ceremony in the afternoon, accompanied by eight bodyguards. They did not allow anyone to touch the tennis player or hand her anything — not even children — as captured in one of the videos from the scene.

After the official opening, Sabalenka held a short masterclass for young athletes and spoke with journalists.

For example, she answered a question about her ideal day ("Wake up as late as possible" and spend time with loved ones) and shared her impressions of returning to the sports school where she herself started out:

"It's real nostalgia. It immediately brings back memories of training sessions, studying, summer camps and my whole journey. Looking back, I understand how much came together thanks to a tremendous drive and daily hard work. That is exactly what helps you achieve your goals."

The cost of inviting Sabalenka to the court opening and her participation in the promotional campaign was not disclosed.
