An International Summit of Cities and Regions is taking place in Kyiv. Before the event began, leader of the Belarusian democratic forces Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the Belarusian delegation met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The summit brought together representatives from 24 countries, primarily European states. Belarus is represented by a delegation headed by Tsikhanouskaya.

Commenting on the meeting with Tsikhanouskaya, Zelenskyy emphasized that democratic Belarus supports Ukraine.

“We all support the Belarusian people’s aspiration to free themselves from Russian interference, and we know that Russia is now trying to drag Belarus even deeper into this war against Ukraine. And we value every expression of support from Belarusians for a free Ukraine. We know the day will come when our countries will once again have good-neighborly relations based on the genuine independence of both Ukraine and Belarus from Moscow,” he said.

He stressed that Ukraine has never posed a threat to Belarus.

“And we are grateful to those Belarusians who stand with Ukraine now, when the fate of both our independence and the independence of every nation bordering Russia is being decided,” Zelenskyy added.
