Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya may visit Ukraine in the nearest future. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said this during an online briefing on May 22.

A day earlier, Alexander Lukashenko said he was ready to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy “at any location” in Ukraine or Belarus. Sybiha commented on the statement as follows:

“There has been no diplomatic contact with Belarus recently. We recently saw Lukashenko’s strange statement that he is ready to meet and travel to Kyiv. The Ukrainian side has others it can meet with.”

Earlier, Tsikhanouskaya met with Zelenskyy in Vilnius at the end of January. At the time, she expressed support for the Ukrainian people, thanked Ukraine for supporting democratic Belarus and “for the fact that the Ukrainian leadership distinguishes between the Belarusian people and the regime.” In response, Zelenskyy invited Tsikhanouskaya to visit Kyiv, though, as it turned out, arranging the visit took longer than expected.
