The Numbeo service has updated its global city cost of living ranking. It includes 547 cities, among them Minsk, which placed 455th.
The ranking is based on the cost of living index. Its calculation takes into account expenses on groceries, dining at cafes and restaurants, transportation, utilities, and other everyday costs. The cost of renting accommodation, mortgages, and property purchases are not factored in.
Analysts have once again named Zurich (Switzerland) the world's most expensive city. It is followed by Georgetown (Cayman Islands) and another Swiss city — Lucerne. In total, eight Swiss cities made it into the top ten. Honolulu in Hawaii was the only US representative in the top 10. Meanwhile, New York, which Numbeo uses as the baseline city for price comparisons, ranked only 12th.
Among major European cities, London came in 24th place, Paris — 49th, Berlin — 101st, Rome — 250th, Barcelona — 251st, and Prague — 268th.
